DigiPak second draft and final

Above is my second draft digipak after the feedback I received I realized that it had no theme to it, some where colour, some where black and white, to fit in with Jaya's website I decided to go with the black and white theme, it is simplistic and allows the two products to fit well together. Another large criticism I received was that the images were too cramped and you couldn't see each one. to fix this I decided to have two images of Jaya, one on the front and one on the back. The rest of the pages are black filled with either artwork or simple text. This makes for easy reading and gives a clear theme. 

Below is my final draft, I added a few images to enforce the artists image while still sticking to the same black and white theme. 

DigiPak Feedback

Love the page with the 'J' on it, very professional, the front cover photo shot is excellent, the page with lots of photos looks a bit too all over the place, perhaps if you want it in that style find a way to present it in a much neater way.

The pictures are very professional and it is very believable that Jaya is a real singer.

I think that the images are of a good quality but I don’t like the "J" design it is very unclear and hard to see. The thank you page could also be changed a little because it’s not very good to look at.

Very pop girl like, needs a CD.

WWW: Very good Front cover and song list looks highly professional. EBI: Song list background picture was in b/w. Personally not a fan of the photos layered on top of each other personally I think picking 9 and fitting them all in so you can see would look better. Not sure what the J on one whole page is? Change the title text on the thank you page or at least remove the underline. Just keep with the b/w really looks good and professional I would recommend using the same font on all pages (apart from front cover) and keep continuity and it will be perfect good luck!

Jaya's photo shoot is brilliant and the top middle photo looks like something out of a proper album cover. However there is no colour uniformity.

When looking at the Jaya digipak it looks professional straight away, all the images that have been taken are in good quality. The font that have been used work really well with the rest of the layout and background colours that have been used. Not everything on the background is black and white and colour is used as well this is what makes it look professional. You can tell what the genre is when looking at the digipak.

Strong imagery and text here! The fact that the boxes don't quite match is really bugging me, and I'm not really getting the far right column, I don't think they're adding anything to the digipak.

Lovely, professional looking pictures, they look great! Like the font used, but could have maybe been repeated throughout as there are a few.

I think this is a well thought out digipak that looks nice and is very simple but effective. The fonts used are very good and easy to read. The digipak has synergy with the rest of the artist’s products which is very good.

The fonts don't seem to link together, which they could to make the digipak even better. I love the section which is just black and white stripes with the 'J'. There are 4 black and white sections and two coloured sections which i feel could all be the same to link together.

Collage image page is good - pictures all look really professional and appropriate. Improvements: not sure what the actual theme is here, it’s all a bit mish mash, try and make it more continuous with your ideas then it will look more effective.

The feedback is very mixed some people like the 'J' art some do not, most feedback was really helpful it showed me that the images look too messy and that the text is inconstant which makes the digipak look amateurish.

This is the first draft of my digiPak, I am really pleased with how it turned out, the only thing that I may change is the art page and put the lyrics to 'US' on there just because I am not sure if the page goes with the rest of the digipak.

Website-Overall

I think that my website has been improved massively, at the top of each page are icons which links to Jaya's Facebook,Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. The sites images are a lot clearer than before and each page fits within its limits. I think that there are still some small changes that can be made but these are minor compared to the changes made recently.

Website-Shop

Most of the comments I received where that this page needed completing which has now been done, I have added multiple products to the shop which allows for a wider audience. I think that this is a good idea because it shows that the artist is versatile because she has a wide variety of audience.

Website-Gallery

This page is very simple, it shows an array of images from various shoots with Jaya it allows the user to see different sides of Jaya. The feedback I received said that the most images were of good quality and variety, some disagreed by saying that they are pixelated and in the same costume. I agree in some respects that the images are pixelated,these images I have deleted but as the costumes go I feel that the images are appropriate but may add some more depending on timing.

Website-JAYA

This page gives the user a detailed overview of Jayas life before her music break, it gives information on her family and home life, I feel that this page is really important because it gives the website a more personal feel to it. A lot of the feedback I received complement the in-depth description of Jaya.

Website-Videos

The 'music' page has a link to the video page which allows the user to watch music videos, behind the scenes and interviews, although not complete yet, the videos will have a small description.

Website-Music

The page contains images of Jayas' EP with the title, release date (both UK and Worldwide) and name of the songs. Below that is an image of Jayas' single 'US' with the lyrics next to that image. I feel that this page is simple yet effective because it shows the music Jaya has produced without having too much to explain, the text is large which makes it easy to read/understand.

Website-News

On this page it contains 'News' from Jaya and about her work, it also contains dates for her UK tour and a link to ticket master, in the centre is a 'performance' image of Jaya, I feel that this ties the page together however, the comments I received said it still looks a bit 'wordy' and I think that I might remove some of the text to make it clearer to read and less bunched.

Website-Homepage

I kept the homepage really simple with the album cover and a link to iTunes to buy the album. I feel like this is sufficient as it show the artist and gives you an indication of her genre of music. Some of the feedback I received said that the home page was 'boring' but I feel that is sufficient to get the information across.The Home page before did contain 'News' however I got a lot of comments saying that it didn't fit the page properly so I removed that and moved it to another page.

DigiPak-Peers

I took a survey  to help my fellow classmates improve their digipaks. Below are my two favourite digipaks.

ALLEYWAYS

This is by far my favourite digipak, it's so professional and the theme continues throughout, the images and text are very clear which makes it easy to read. I like that each side has a clear image and text, making each side different but work collectively together. The only thing that could do with a slight edit is the CD, it goes slightly over the page but that can edited rather fast.In conclusion the DigiPak is slick all the images show the band, honestly it could it could be put in a record shop and you wouldn't notice the different. 


COSMO
Cosmo is my second favourite digipak. It really shows the artist and allows the audience to have an understanding of the music without having to listen to it. Again, the digipak links together all with a psychedelic background, the first image shows a heavily edited image of the artists, the rest of the sides show different images of either people or space, it shows the genre of the artist. 

First Draft feedback.

The feedback I received is very mixed, one underlying comment that came from the feedback was that the shots are too long and need more variety in the video. The editing appears to be very basic and so its very easy to see where the cuts have been made, some also say that the lip syncing is also out of sync. This makes me rethink the video, it shows that I still need to do a lot of work. One thing that received a lot of positive feedback was the quality of shots, some people also think that there should be more shots of Jaya laying on the floor.

On average I scored 29.9 out of 40. In conclusion the things that went well are the quality of shots, the mise en scene and the variety of shots, the things that could be improved upon are the lengths of the shots, espcailly the wall shots and have either black and white or colour having both doesn't give a clear theme. By using this feedback I am going to try and get something else into the video for example we have a lot of good dancers in the school so I may incorporate someone to dance to the song and use these clips in my video to add something more than just performance.

WHAT WAS GOOD

A professional looking site that fits the artists image and genre, filled with lovely picutres, I'm sure the sight will look great once it's finished. -Jonathan

In conclusion most feedback is helpful which allows me to improve my site, some comments were not helpful as they are only a few words long, others tell me what is wrong but not how to improve it which annoys me a bit because they obviously have an idea on how the site should work but do not tell me their ideas. ges has too much writing and some do not have enough these need to be balanced out more to make it better. 

Evaluation Of Others' Sites.

GRACE STARR

GOOD- The pictures are well placed and with the same style the throughout the website it gives off a professional feel. The background image, in fact all of them, are strong and clear ones which again shows the professionalism of the site. The transitions of the site are consistent and work well. The wide variety of merchandise and quality of it is fantastic, as well as the sign up for newsletters, it shows that real thought has gone into the designing of the site. 

EVEN BETTER IF- Information on the 'press' page is all down one side,making the page rather long,possibly put some of the articles on the opposite side, unless they are down one side for the purpose of the image being visible. There could be less images on the 'about Grace' as they are already on the 'media' page. The Iphone on the merchandise page could you possibly remove the small lines around the Iphone?

 In conclusion the site itself is fantastic, the quality of images,merchandise and titles are fantastic, the hard work gone into it, is defiantly noticeable. 

NICHOLAS ALEXANDER 

GOOD-The home pages bold title,shows who this website is based upon,the see-through background is an innovative design for a site, which allows the user to see the text as well as the background so nothing is cut off. The 'contact' page is well thought out and therefore easy to read and use. 

EVEN BETTER IF-Some of the images are really pixelated, it may be possible to make it less pixelated by using some type of filter or adjusting the brightness of the image. You can also tell that some of the images are taken in a classroom and the galleries lengthy description may not be necessary. Images of the other bands on the 'tour' page needs to be changed. On the 'about' page maybe you could give more information about 'Nicholas' rather than his career. 

In conclusion the website is very good, it shows his personality throughout his site, some things need slight improvements but all in all its a good site. 

ENCODED

GOOD- The countdown until the album is a really good idea, its very original and not seen on many sites which makes it so different. The images are good quality,although few of them, they show who the artists are.The links on the site are also well placed,as well as the transition throughout the site. 

EVEN BETTER IF- Grammar on the site could be looked at again. To make the social media links more accessible maybe put them at the top of each page or somewhere they are visible. 

In conclusion the site is of good quality, if more images are added it can show different sides of the group, however all together it is easy to navigate and read due to the layout and font. 

COSMO

GOOD-The homepage is bright and the filter works well with the stars image, they variety of pictures is good and all the images of clear, the design of the gallery is also unique, but it allows you to see the images without having to click on the full picture, which is also a good idea. The merchandise, although simple, is very good, when moving the mouse over the image its description appears with a different colour background which is also a great idea. 

EVEN BETTER IF-The text on the 'dates' could be larger and clearer, so it is more visible to the user.  On the 'Meet Cosmo' is blank so that needs completely, as well as the 'contact' page. I think that  there should be more information on Cosmo himself so the audience know who he is and what he's about.

In conclusion I think that the website is really good, although still under construction once its done it will look professional. 

HYBRID BEAUTY

GOOD-There is a strong background image throughout the website, the merchandise has a fantastic range and is really good quality. The 'About Us' images are amazing quality, which defiantly gives the site/page a professional feel to them. The interviews are really good and well laid out.One thing I really love about the site is its consistency, the colours remain the same on each page which shows the thought gone into it. The text is also the same on each page, the consistency throughout shows the professionalism of the site. 

EVEN BETTER IF-The purple text of the front of the home screen could be a lot clearer, there could also be a little more information on the home screen. Also the text on the 'Gallery' page could also be more visible,although I understand that the theme is black and white, the text does need to be clearer to read,the same can be said for the text on the 'Shop' page and 'contact' page. Also the tour dates are to one side, maybe you could bring those into the centre? Unless they purpose of them being there is to see the image better then that is understandable. 'About Us' 'Iris' picture is different to the other two, while the others are next to a tree,using it as a prop, 'Iris' is in front of a brick wall, so maybe change the image to match the others?  Also on the 'News' page it is just images and interviews maybe have a live link to their social media pages? 

In conclusion the site is really well presented as well as the consistency it gives it a real professional feel, with a few minor changes the site can look incredible. 

ALLEYWAYS

GOOD- The bold homepage, shows the album cover, which I love as it really sets the tone for the rest of the site.The images in the 'Gallery' are strong ones, they show the different personalities in the band, which really comes across in each image. Especially with the black background they like look incredibly professional shots, something that not all sites have(including my own). The Alleyways merchandise is really well presented/made, it gives a variety of different items that all look professional made. The alleyways site has the same theme throughout which only adds to its quality.

EVEN BETTER IF-There are only a few things that may need improving, possibly add some images to the 'UK Tour' page or move the text into the middle,the only other thing is the text, now I am not sure if this is on purpose but each sentence seems to be missing its capital letter and so is all in lower case. 

In conclusion I think that the site is almost flawless and am really impressed with the teams effort on the site. 

ALEX ECHO

GOOD-There is a consistent theme throughout the site with a good strong background. The images throughout the site are clear with bold text.

EVEN BETTER IF-The page is really busy and has a lot of different information on, maybe try to make it simpler by putting other bits of information of different pages.One thing that confuses is me is who Sam is? He features is some of the pictures and since the website is for 'Alex Echo' a solo artist, I wonder what relevance Sam has to the artist? Also the merchandise images are extremely blurry, with only two items on there, I think more is needing (assuming under construction)

In conclusion I think that the basis of the site is very good, with minimal improvements it could be even better. 

JAMES COULER

GOOD-The Twitter feed on the Home screen is good,it allows the user to see what the artist is up to without having to open a separate tab. The background image is consistent throughout the website as well as the text.The merchandise is done really well, they are flawless and looks like it is created by a manufacturer.

EVEN BETTER IF- All the pages are unnecessarily long, look at Wix to see if you can change that, also the back image is slightly grainy,see if you can use some editing tool to fix it. There are also no tour dates on the site(assuming under construction). Most images are grainy, some of which you can tell are taken in a school classroom, some shots are also really similar  with just a slight head change movement, making some images unnecessary. 

Also the image does not cover the entire page, leaving some black space on the side which makes the site look less professional and more amateur. The contact information should also be larger with links to his Facebook and Twitter pages. Also there is no information about 'James Couler' which is definitely needed.

In conclusion,if changes are made the site can look even better and more professional. 

Digi Pak Progression

As seen in my earlier post I am not a great drawer, so I enlisted the help of my friend, to bring my idea to life, she created an amazing design for the digipak. Below are the images of her sketches and so I can work of this to create the Digipak.

This is the front of the digipak, which consists of Jaya's album cover at the front. 

This is the back right page that you will see at you open the CD cover, the page will consist of images of Jaya,both from a 'proffesional' shoot and own taken, this may be a pull out for fans to take out and stick on the wall. 

This is the left back page, this will be a small thank you page, where Jaya thanks the fans, all her management et cetera, this is common in CDs.

This is the CD that will be in Jaya's digipak, I think that by having the CD matte black and white writing will make it stand out from other CDs.

This is some album art that will be on the inside right, I think that this will also make the album stand out from other CDs, I really like this design as it looks edgy but classical from the black and white colours. 

 This is the back of the digipak,with the lists of songs,I think this will also be black with the style of her album name as the text.

Below is a quick sketch on how I'm going to create to pack and what is going where,I think that by having this sketch it will help me when producing the digipak itself.

Improvements

On reflection of my blog I think there is a lot of things I can improve on, for example I don't show progression, although I explain what I am doing with the DigiPak in my production diary I do not  show any evidence of it. This is also true of the Website, I have recently posted images of the website, but this is near completion,I did upload a sketch of the website but their is no evidence of the in between construction.  
My grammar and spelling also needs improvement, I generally type without re-reading which can sometimes make the posts harder to read. 
I have found that is really important to portray the star in the same light in all different social media outlets,TV,radio,online ect. This is a major thing I need to work on, although I have done an interview and paper interview I need to widen the portrayal to the media/public.
It is also important that I keep up to date on task and complete within deadlines because otherwise I forget that it has not been finished which,again, is something I need to work on. 

Website Progression

Below are the images from the website, I feel that the site needs to improve a lot, the News page needs to have more information added, the sore obviously needs to have the merch still uploaded, the images also need to have a title. I think I may also change the image on 'Jaya' to incorporate the image with the text, as currently they are too distant, however I do like the coordination of it.

Research-XL Recordings

This a powerpoint on XL Recordings, I feel that the examples show that XL Recordings sign different genres of current and new artists and I think that XL Recordings would sign Jaya based on their other clients.

 This is the drama studio where we will be filming the glamours, natural and some performance shots. 

This is another location we will be using, however it will be dark and so we will be using a varity of lights to light the space.

Discovering Jaya

Mock Online Interviews

Above is a really rough copy of the type of an interview. However this particular interview needs to be redone because I feel like it is not up to scratch. For example height, Jaya is sitting above me so I have to look up to her and the camera is also looking down at both of us. We are both sitting down, although there is nothing wrong with that most interviews are filmed standing up behind a desk unless they are outside. Costumes are also a major flaw in this interview as I look to casual for a formal interview and so when we re-film this will need to be changed, although the top half is only being filmed we need to ensure that it looks as professional as possible. Background and acoustics also need to be carefully looked at because as you can see there is a black vent behind us, also compared to Jaya I am very loud, this is because of two things, one I raised my voice slightly and secondly the room echoed so we need to ensure when re-filming there is no echoes. One thing that is strong in the video is the flow, we talk as if we are having a normal conversation, which many interviews are, but because Jaya went slightly off script some questions and answers didn't really make sense and words were out of place, so we need to make sure we keep to script to avoid confusion. Pace is also good because we reply quickly without long pauses however at the begging and end of the interview I talk rather fast which makes the interview seem rushed so I need to ensure that the pace is a steady one. Hopefully the next interview we film will be better and more appropriate I hope to have three interviews in total.

This is a rough copy for Jaya's online questions for her fans, this will be re-filmed because the door in the background is see through and the window is dirty so I think I will re-filmed with a different background, also instead of having a voice over I will put the questions on the screen with an intro and outro, they will be from Jaya so no TV signs will be needed.  Apart from those small issues I think that this is a good representation of how the online interviews will look.

Below are images I have taken for Jaya's album cover and other social media sites, this shoot was a real success and will defiantly be used.

Website Sketch

Below is a rough sketch of how I want the website to look, I want it to be simple so its easy to navigate but it also needs to remain edgy to go with Jaya's look. I want the main colours to be black and white so the images and albums stand out.

What Could go Wrong?

-During production a lot of things could go wrong because I am relying on someone else to preform, I have to work around their schedule and even then I might not be able to do that day so timing is a massive issue, so planning is key when it comes to organise filming.  
-We are also doing outside shooting so weather could be a massive issue, again this requires planning, we need to find a day where the whether is good enough to film in during the day, also as we are doing night shots we need to ensure that if its raining that it is not too heavy as I do want to get some rain shots as long as the camera can still focus on the singer. Also during the day shots we need to make sure that the wind isn't too strong so that it gives a great effect but doesn't blow Jaya's hair in her face, which is what happened during the photo shoot. 
-One thing I have found to be very difficult is that the singer may become ill in which we would have to postpone the shoot, so I would have to have a back up plan on what I could do if Jaya calls in sick. -Although working on my own I need be able to compromise with Jaya when it comes to clothing I may have an idea of what I want to happen but Jaya may not be comfortable with that idea and so we would need to work together to come up an alternative idea. 
-Most of the shots are in the drama studio so I need to book that in advance to make sure we can film in there, however an obstacle of this is that we need to change the lighting and if one of the lights are not working it could ruin the whole recording and so I would do a run-through the day before filming to make sure that all the lights are working.

These imags are of the very first draft of the storyboard, they consist of small drawings with a brief description of the movement, camera angle and location. These will then be re-drawn with any alterations added to them.                                                                   One thing I need to ensure that I do is add the times/duration of the shot, the location and if any movement, eg walking, is involved this will make it a lot easier when it comes to shooting.               Another major mistake I have make is that I have not added the introduction to the video and the outro plus the instrumentals throughout the song, this is important to include so I know how I am going to fill those gaps, otherwise I may not get enough footage to fill the video, although I plan to overshoot it is very important for those instrumentals to have something to the whole music video blends together.                                                                             Also because the music video is only 2 minutes long I need to add the begging, where no music is playing and what I am adding there,although this can be changed later is allows me to know how long I plan to have the introduction or allowing me to create a visual timeline for the video.                                               

Album Sketch

Below is a small sketch so I have some idea on how I am going to create the cover, however this is for the album cover not the single cover, the single cover, to me is not as important as the album, by having a sketch it will make the album process a lot easier. It also gives me an easier idea on the colour scheme for the album.
