2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

After finishing filming for my music video, I focused solely on my digipak to try and make it as professional looking as possible as well as making it as accurate as possible to fit in with the soul/pop genre. I also tried to create appealing advertisement for a new artist in which would get media coverage to a wider audience, this was done in several ways, from interviews, magazine articles among other things.

My main aim to the run up of the album realness was to show how JAYA was an ordinary girl who grafted to get where she was and the closeness she has with her fans. I feel that I achieved this goal through the detailed website description, interviews and digipak. The media campaign that I created compliments this well.

Many up and coming artists use iconography to reinforce who they are, only when they are established do they use artwork instead of portraits as their album covers. By exploring other artists that were similar to the pop/soul genre I found that most artist have head shots, instead of full body shots, the use of close ups allows the audience to feel a closer connection to the artist through facial features, this intimacy is reinforced by the music. I therefor followed suit on this with a head shot of JAYA so the audience can clearly see her facial features and feel a connection, this was followed up by the use of close ups in the music video and magazine interviews, this type of marketing campaign has been very successful for artists such as Ed Sheeran and Adele.

Here are two comparisons of my first draft and final cut. The first draft had a lot of 6 second shots, in music videos shots are very short and each one is in there for a specific reason, the first draft included 'filling' shots, I used shots such as the black and white one to fill a gap that I had no footage for. The black and white shots along with coloured did not match Jaya's style, we have portrayed her has a fun bubbly character and these shots did not match this marketing scheme.
So for the final cut I added different coloured shots which portrayed Jaya in a better light, I also re-shot a lot of footage which allowed me to get rid of the filling shots, making it more look more professional.

I feel that I have successfully used my Fonts/Logo through all my ancillary texts. The font successfully links to my website and digipak as well as the teaser trailer, I did this so the audience would be able to recognise JAYA not only by her face but by the logo so people can become familiar with her.

4) How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Whilst creating my music video, I used multiple media technologies both hardware and software, most of which I used last year when we created the film opening, however due to the challenging aspects of a music video I also widened my technological skills and used different hardware/software. By incorporating different programs technologies throughout the process, from pre-production to post-production, especially doing the evaluation stage, new software allowed me to explore different ways of presenting my findings. Below is a brief video of all the hardware and software I used throughout my A2 music video process.

Researching and Planning

When deciding what song to use, I brain stormed what songs where popular a few years ago, I wanted to find an artist that was newer to the music scene, this allowed me to create a music video without compromising the artist integrity but following their music video patterns. After much deliberation, I decided to go with Emeli Sande, although she has a unique voice she was still new to the market. Jaya also able to portray someone who could sing in that tone, which helped greatly when making the 'artist'  more believable.

I used Youtube, Google images and Pintrest to help me create the different looks in our music video.

Working alone meant that I could stick to my own schedule, however because I use Jaya in my video I use Iphone Imessage to contact her so we could come up with a day that suited us both. During these conversations I told Jaya what outfits she would need to bring and what shots we would be shooting that day. We also used FaceTime in which we could go through Jayas wardrobe and find outfits that suited the shots I wanted.

During Production

I used two different cameras during production, one for photos and one for recording. I used the Nikon D3200 camera for photos, as they produced better quality photos than the handy-cam, and used the Sony Airforce Handy-cam for recording as it was lightweight and easy to record with. In terms of lighting I generally used the spiderlight TD6 and the Photosel LA11E21 Light, these created a base light for all the shots we created. When shooting the performance shots we created a black canvas that stood behind Jaya, and since we where in the school drama studio and we had professional lighting system, we used that to our advantage. Creating different coloured lights to create different effects, this made the shots look like a 'real' performance instead of a staged one.
